No real reason for this photo, it was just one of the options for Wix and I think we're due for some autumn.
I hope everyone's September is off to a great start. I've been decorating and trying to pretend it isn't still burning hot where I live most of the time. I always feel like summer drags by incredibly slowly, but I can also never believe how quickly September arrived.
In addition to September, Tuesday is upon us once more, and I don't have a real blog post this week. I'm taking the week off from intense writing to give my creativity a vacation.
With school and writing groups and workshops ramping up, I'm realizing that I need some time to revisit what I need to include in my days. I've been spending most of my time putting out work or consuming things that, while instructional and enjoyable in their own way, may not be what is most directly aligned with my passions in writing.
So, I need to take a week to focus on things that are and get in the habit of including them as an important part of my schedule. I'm planning to spend most of my free time reading and getting back in touch with the things that make me want to write.
When I shared this plan with my mom, she put her finger on what's probably at the heart of it, as mothers have a way of doing. She pointed out that, when I was little, the reason I had a boundless imagination was that we spent time reading and watching things that inspired me. While I did invent a lot of my make believe stories on my own, I loved to include things from my favorite stories created by other people, from beloved characters to the types of adventures.
While the way I do this now looks - and must look - different, I still need that time to refuel my imagination with the kinds of thing I enjoy and aspire to.
So, I want to take this week to establish a routine so that refueling can continue every day of my life and career. I also want any work time not taken up by school to go towards nailing down the new blogging ideas I have. Hopefully next week I'll be able to return with a post explaining my plans.
(By the way, if you follow me on social media, I'm also taking a break from creating content on there.)
The Articles
However, there will be plenty for you to read during my absence.
The first is something I've been waiting to share for quite a while now. A proposal I submitted to a leading magazine for home educators was accepted and will be in their fall issue! I share my perspective as a homeschool grad regarding how parents can foster aspiring writers in their homes.
The magazine isn't out yet, but HERE is a link to their site and stay tuned for a link to the article when it does publish.
The second thing you can read is this month's Brought to Mind column in A Bundle of Thyme Magazine. In it, I share about the handmade objects in my home and what they mean to me.
You can read my column HERE or - you know the drill - through the link on my Other Writing page.
